New Swift in end-August

Back view of the new Swift

Maruti kicks off production of new Swift at its Manesar plant.the current Swift was launched in 2005 in both petrol and diesel variants. The replacement will offer both engine options. Till the very end, Maruti sold about 12,000 units a month of this hatch which achieved cult status.

The all new Swift looks similar in styling to the old model being phased out but is; in fact, build on an all-new platform. Each body panel is new and bigger than its predecessors in every dimension. The new interiors get some cues styling from the large Kizashi saloon, particularly in the centre console.

The new Swift will be available in two variants Petrol and Diesel. While the petrol variant will be powered by a 1.2 litre, 84 bhp K-series engine motors, the diesel will be powered by a 1.3 litre unit sourced from Fiat. Like the outgoing model, the new Swift will spawn a sub-four metre saloon variant.

concept model

According to my view, the cosmetic changes to new Swift make it look larger and roomier than its predecessors. The new Swift betters the previous model in cabin space and sports better build quality. The new Swift handles better in corners than the old one, especially cornering at high speeds. The new Swift will take on the Ford Figo, Nissan Micra, Skoda Fabia, Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto and the recently launched Toyota Liva. The price range for the new Swift is not disclosed yet, but it looks like it will be between 5 lakhs – 7 lakhs.

The Etios Liva

Toyota has launched the hatchback version of the Etios saloon with aggressive pricing. The 1.2-litre 79 bhp petrol variant will cost Rs. 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom delhi). The liva will take on the Swift, Figo and Micra.

Toyota has launched yet another great car. This is there first car in the hatchback segment. The 1.2-litre engine in the Liva is very refined. The cabin space is very good in the Liva. Especially the leg room in the back seat is great. Only the dash board is the same from the Etios saloon, which looks very ugly according to me.

The all new Fiesta saloon comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine options. While the 1.5-litre petrol is a scaled down version of the 1.6-litre engine that powers the Fiesta Classic, the diesel in an enlarged version of the 1.4-litre Duratoq and develops 89.72bhp and 20.81kgm of torque.

Both cars will be equipped with a five speed manual gearbox and a Twin-clutch autobox is expected later this year. The higher variants come loaded with features like voice control.

Targeted at the CITY and VERNA 1.6, Ford has priced the Fiesta’s petrol variants between Rs. 8.23 lakh – 9.24 lakh(ex-showroom delhi), higher than the City and Verna. The old model of the Fiesta is badged as the Fiesta Classic. The diesel Fiesta is priced between Rs. 9.27 lakh – 10.42 lakh.

Ford has offered so many features in the Fiesta that no other car in this segment offers. Ford has given the cruise control feature in the top-end model of the Fiesta, which can be found in top class cars like the VW Passat, Audi’s. As the Ford name goes, the engines available in the Fiesta are well refined. The Fiesta handles well at high speeds. The soft suspension gives a comfortable ride even on bumpy roads. The new Fiesta is an atom bomb in a small package. The Fiesta has great looks. The interior of the car is also well designed and the plastic used is also of good quality. Overall the Fiesta is a great car. If you are planning to buy a sedan in a price range of 8-10 lakh rupees the Ford Fiesta is the car you want to buy

hey Ayishwariya….. if u r looking for a petrol variant : Ford Fiesta, Honda City, Hyundai verna, Maruti Swift Dezire, Maruti SX4 are the cars available in the Rs. 10 lakh price range…..
But I will suggest u 2 buy a Diesel car, as the petrol prices are rising.
In diesel Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Verna, Chevrolet Optra Magnum are the cars u should look forward to. Verna and Optra have plenty of cabin space and are Luxurious.
